About Us
Dr. Martin dedicated 38 years to equine veterinary medicine in the foothills of San Diego County. He spent the first 30 years with Large Animal Veterinary Associates, beginning as an associate veterinarian before becoming a partner in the multi-doctor practice. In 2019, following the retirement of his longtime business partner, Dr. Martin founded Martin Equine Veterinary Practice, where he continued providing compassionate, personalized care to the horses and owners who had trusted him throughout his career.
In 2025, Dr. Martin and his wife relocated to Drake, Colorado to be closer to their son, daughter, and four grandsons. Although he initially planned to retire, it didn't take long to realize that caring for horses wasn't just his profession—it was his calling. After a well-earned few months of rest and time with family, Dr. Martin is excited to reopen Martin Equine Veterinary Practice and bring nearly four decades of experience, dedication, and a lifelong passion for equine health to horse owners across Colorado's Front Range.

Our Doctor:
Larry G. Martin, D.V.M.
Dr. Martin is a native of San Diego, growing up in the mountain town of Julian and graduating from Julian High School. From high school Dr. Martin attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Lincoln College New Zealand studying Animal Science. He then proceeded to U.C. Davis for his veterinary degree,
graduating in 1988. Following graduation Dr. Martin practiced in the rural town of Alpine in a mixed animal practice before joining Large Animal Veterinary Associates (LAVA) in 1989. After nearly 30 years with Large Animal Veterinary Associates, and following the retirement of his longtime business partner, Dr. Larry Catt, Dr. Martin founded Martin Equine Veterinary Practice. Today, after relocating to beautiful Colorado, he is proud to continue serving the equine community throughout the Front Range.
